Kettering 911 Memorial Kettering, Ohio installed 2002 Indiana Limestone, Stainless and powdercoated steel, 12'h Van Alstine's memorial is working calendar. Each year on September 11 the noon shadow cast by the sculpture's center stylus crosses the "911" stainless steel marker as a perpetual reminder of that day. The City of Kettering has an official memorial event each year where crowds gather at noon to remember and pay homage. Van Alstine's memorial is one of 8 public works created at the "Kettering Rock" International Stone Sculpture Symposium held September 9-29, 2002. Artist representing Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States spend 3 weeks working in view of the public. Their finished sculptures were installed permanently around the city.
