1987. Painted granite, painted steel. Dimensions: 16 × 17 × 7 in (41 × 43 × 18 cm).
Private collection.
Blue Rounder III continues my exploration of the circle as a dynamic element connecting stone. A broad blue-painted steel arc joins two granite forms, creating a precarious balance between weight, movement, and stability.
The painted steel reflects my growing use of color during this period, moving beyond my earlier adherence to “truth to materials.” The circle-and-stone relationship also anticipates imagery that would later become central to my Sisyphean Circles.
