January 1989. Granite, bronze. Dimensions: 23 × 30 × 13 in (58 × 76 × 33 cm).
Bronze Rounder I continues the circular language of my earlier Rounder Series, joining two contrasting pieces of stone through a broad curving arc. The large upright stone balances on a narrow point while the smaller stone anchors the opposite end, creating tension between weight, balance, and implied movement. Visible connections remain an important part of both the structure and the image.
The sweeping arc reflects my move from the structural concerns of the earlier tensegrity, or Brute Series, toward a more expressive sculptural vocabulary. Its combination of stone, circular movement, and precarious balance also anticipates ideas that would later develop in my Sisyphean Circle Series.
