January 2004. Granite, steel. Dimensions: 29 × 50 × 14 in (74 × 127 × 36 cm).
Private collection - Aikens, SC
Glissando takes its title from the musical term for a continuous slide from one pitch to another. Here that idea becomes physical: the sweeping steel elements appear to slide and glide across one another, creating a continuous sense of movement through otherwise heavy, static materials.
The rough granite provides a counterweight to this fluid motion, while the curved steel suggests shifting balance and arrested movement. The pairing of natural stone and fabricated steel becomes almost musical—a progression of forms flowing from one element to the next.
