Hamilton Go-Round II continues the circle-and-stone language of the Go-Round Series at a larger, more architectural scale. Two massive granite elements are joined by a broad curve of industrial steel pipe, creating an open arc charged by weight, balance, and implied movement. The tall granite slab appears precariously poised on a narrow point, while the exposed hardware makes the means of assembly clearly visible.
The title simply refers to Hamilton County, New York, where I live, without any deeper metaphorical meaning. Like the earlier Go-Rounds, the work reflects the idea of returning repeatedly to a sculptural theme through a series of variations, further developing the circle-and-stone imagery that would continue into my Sisyphean Circles.
