Tools and Implements in Van Alstine’s Work
As a sculptor, I have always been fascinated by tools, implements, and instruments. I see them as extensions of the artist’s hand—essential allies in the act of making. I am also drawn to their raw, efficient beauty, forms shaped by function.
While many artists—from David Smith and Jim Dine to Pablo Picasso—have explored this territory, I bring my own perspective, informed by decades of experience, to reinterpret these forms in ways unique to my practice.
