October 1990. Slate, bronze. Dimensions: 36 × 39 × 19 in (91 × 99 × 48 cm). Private collection - Aspen, CO
Sidewinder Slate continues my exploration of circular movement, balance, and physical connection within the Sidewinder Series. It was one of my first sculptures to incorporate New York State slate, whose dark, layered character contrasts with the sweeping, green-patinated bronze. The tall rising slab and smaller horizontal stone are brought into an active relationship by the curving bronze form, creating a sense of movement while maintaining my ongoing interest in visible connections and precarious balance.
The sculpture was exhibited in my 1990 solo exhibitions at Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe and the Morris Museum in Morristown, New Jersey. It was later purchased by Marty and Debby Flug of Aspen, Colorado.
