Slider II follows Slider I and continues my interest in tools and implements and their “raw, efficient beauty of form dictated by function.” Here again I use the tip of a large crane lifting hook, celebrating its powerful shape while combining it with rough granite and fabricated steel.
The title Slider comes from the fluid, sliding movement suggested by the forms. The curved hook sweeps upward against the granite, giving this compact arrangement of heavy materials an unexpected sense of motion and balance.
