Yaddo Rounder I, 1985

Yaddo Rounder I continues my exploration of circular forms, bringing stone and steel together through weight, balance, and implied movement. The sweeping steel arc connects two contrasting stones, while visible pins and attachments emphasize the physical act of assembly.

The title refers to Yaddo, the artists’ retreat in Saratoga Springs, New York, where I created the work as a resident fellow in the summer of 1985. Its circular form continues ideas begun in the Go-Round Series and anticipates imagery that would recur throughout my later work.
