Yaddo Rounder III, 1985

Yaddo Rounder III continues my exploration of the Rounder Series, combining a sweeping curved steel element with a single upright stone. The stone is poised on a narrow point while the steel arc rises from the base and physically engages it through visible pins and forged attachments. Gravity, balance, and the mechanics of assembly remain central, while the circular form introduces a stronger sense of movement.

Like the other Yaddo Rounders, the sculpture was created during my residency at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York, in the summer of 1985. The work reflects a period when the circle was becoming an increasingly important element in my sculpture—linking stone and steel while suggesting rotation, repetition, and arrested motion.
