Passage

2011
Granite and stainless steel

Commissioned by Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in celebration of the University's 100th Anniversary.

Passage (2011) was commissioned to commemorate the centennial of Tsinghua University, one of China's leading institutions for art, architecture, science, and engineering. The sculpture speaks of movement, transformation, and connection. Balancing the enduring strength of granite with a soaring, plunging steel vessel form, it invites viewers to reflect on both the physical act of passage through space and the intellectual and personal journeys that shape university life—and, more broadly, the human experience.

Standing at the heart of an international campus devoted to creativity and innovation, Passage serves as a symbol of cultural exchange, discovery, and the shared pursuit of knowledge through art.
