mock-up for granite base order
Installation In Washington, DC, 2005
schematic for collector installation
December 1998. Bronze, rose granite. Dimensions: 26 × 38 × 11 in (66 × 97 × 28 cm).
Private collection - Washington, DC
Hornhammer (Rouge) is the first work in my Hornhammer Series and brings together two recurring interests in my sculpture: tools and natural forms. The long bronze handle and rough rose granite suggest a primitive hammer or implement, reflecting my view of tools as extensions of the hand.
The cast bronze horn introduces the natural, spiraling geometry of animal forms. Combined with stone and the tool-like structure, it allows the sculpture to shift between natural form, human-made implement, and abstraction.
