January 2000. Bronze. Dimensions: 62 × 29 × 8 in (157 × 74 × 20 cm). Disassembled 2021 parts used for new works.
Trophy Column is unusual in my work from this period because it contains no stone. Constructed entirely in bronze, it incorporates animal horns cast from natural forms. I was drawn to their sweeping arcs and organic geometry, which extend the curving forms already present in my sculpture.
The title refers to the trophy-like presentation of the horns atop the column, recalling mounted animal trophies common to Adirondack hunting culture. Here, the familiar form is transformed into sculpture, bringing natural form and human-made structure together.
